Medication Management and Deprescribing
Deciding to explore using medication is a highly personal choice, and it’s one we approach with immense care and respect. Our philosophy is never about pushing a prescription or rushing into a regimen that doesn't feel right to you. We take the time to look at the whole picture—how your body responds, what your daily life looks like, and what you feel comfortable with. If you choose to move forward with medication, it is always a shared journey where your voice matters most, and we adapt our approach dynamically as your needs evolve.
If your goal is to reduce or stop medication, we will guide you through that transition with incredible patience and care. This is called deprescribing. We never abruptly stop a regimen; instead, we work closely alongside you to safely and gently ease you off of it. We work together as a team, ensuring your stability, safety, and well-being always remain our highest priorities.

Medication Management questions we are asked most
Will I be expected to start medication on my first visit?
Absolutely not. Exploring the medication option is always a deeply personal choice. Our first meeting is strictly about listening to your story, gathering important information, and understanding your daily life. If we both feel that medication could be a helpful tool to give you some breathing room, we will talk about it openly. We will never push a prescription on you or rush you into a decision before you feel completely ready and comfortable. We will take time to answer all of your questions and address any concerns that arise.
What happens if I start a medication and I really don't like how it makes me feel?
Your safety, comfort, and physical well-being are our highest priorities. Psychiatric medications can take time to become fully effective, and there is commonly a short adjustment period. If you ever feel like a medication isn't a good fit for you, we want you to tell us right away. We will listen to exactly what you are experiencing and work together to safely adjust your treatment plan. It is critical that you never stop taking a medication without consulting us.
Can I change my dose or stop taking my medication if I start feeling better?
We completely understand the desire to step away from medication when you begin to feel better. However, it is important that you never change your medication dose or frequency without consulting us. When you feel ready to reduce or stop a medication, we will plan a safe, gentle timeline together and walk you through it step-by-step to keep you feeling steady.
Is medication the only thing we will focus on during our follow-up appointments?
Not at all. While we will carefully monitor how you are responding to any prescriptions, our follow-up sessions are still true, human conversations. We will check in on your daily life, your relationships, your stress levels, and your overall journey toward wellness. Medication is just one piece of the puzzle. We are here to support you as a whole person, ensuring that every aspect of your care feels balanced and meaningful. This is why our follow-up appointments are longer than most, with your choice of 30- or 60-minute telehealth sessions.
