Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

PMDD, a severe form of PMS, is a condition where emotional and physical symptoms become significantly more intense and sometimes severe in the days or weeks before a menstrual period. This can include mood changes such as irritability, sadness, anxiety, mood swings, fatigue, or feeling overwhelmed, along with physical symptoms like bloating, sleep changes, discomfort, or pain. Symptoms typically improve shortly after the menstrual period begins.

We take the time to understand your symptoms in relation to your cycle and how they affect your daily life, relationships, work, and overall well-being. Tracking patterns over time helps us gain a clearer, more accurate understanding of what you are experiencing.

Care for PMDD at Intersect Mental Wellness is thoughtful and personalized. We work closely with you to create a treatment plan that may include lifestyle support, therapy strategies, and medication when appropriate, all tailored to your specific needs and goals.

PMDD is a real and treatable condition. With the right support, many people experience significant relief and a greater sense of balance and control throughout their cycle.

PMDD questions we are asked most

Why should I see a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) for this?

Your mind and your body are completely connected. At Intersect Mental Wellness, we look at the whole picture. We won't just look at a checklist; we will talk about how your cycle impacts your mood, sleep, and relationships, and use targeted brain-and-body treatments to bring you relief.

How long does it take to start feeling like myself again?

Many patients begin to notice a softening of their sharpest symptoms within the very first cycle or two of targeted treatment. While finding your perfect balance takes a little time and tracking, relief does not have to take months. We will work closely together so you can start reclaiming your life.

Will I have to take medication every single day?

Not necessarily. One of the unique things about PMDD is that we can often tailor treatment to your specific cycle. Taking medication only during the two weeks before their period (the luteal phase) works beautifully for some. For others, daily support feels better. We will collaborate to find the exact rhythm that fits your life and comfort level.

Can we use natural options instead of prescriptions?

Absolutely. We will look at whatever path makes you feel safest and most comfortable. Many patients find immense relief by combining evidence-based supplements with gentle lifestyle adjustments. Your plan will be entirely collaborative, built around your preferences and your body.

If you decide to take supplements, we are happy to offer a 35% discount to all of our patients who order from Fullscript through our platform. Fullscript provides clinician-vetted brands that are independently tested for purity and potency.
